How you learn best, which subjects align with your cognitive and personality profile, and what academic environments help you thrive rather than just survive. Academic fit is about more than grades — it's about understanding your learning identity.
The VARK Model
The VARK model (Fleming, 1992) identifies four primary learning modalities. Understanding your profile helps you optimise your study approach, choose learning environments that match your style, and predict which academic disciplines will feel natural vs draining.
Learns through diagrams, charts, spatial understanding. Drawn to fields with visual logic.
Learns through discussion, listening, verbal explanation. Excels in debate, law, medicine.
Learns through reading, note-taking, written output. Well-suited for research and writing-intensive fields.
Learns through doing, experimenting, practice. Thrives in lab environments, design, and technical fields.
